Carlee Kasperbauer

School Psychologist (ages 3 - 21) and Elementary Counselor (Transitional Kindergarten - 5th grade)

My name is Carlee Kasperbauer. I am the school psychologist and the elementary school counselor. This is my 9th school year working in the Asotin-Anatone School District and I truly feel so blessed!

As a school counselor, I support students with their academic achievement, social and emotional development and career planning outcomes using the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) National Model: The ASCA National Model: A Framework for School Counseling Programs. The ASCA National Model outlines the components of a school counseling program that is integral to the school's academic mission and is created to have a significant positive impact on student achievement, attendance and discipline. A school counselor's work is multifaceted. We guide, teach, encourage, and lead as needed. Sometimes you will find me with a student in an individual counseling session, or teaching a classroom lesson about emotional literacy, communication skills, or conflict management. On other days, I may spend time supporting students with behavioral needs, or fostering new relationships between new and old students through group and project-based interactions. I work hard every day to ensure each of our students is set up for success, not only academically, but socially, emotionally and psychologically. Taking a "whole child" approach and addressing overall wellness, school counselors can recognize the significance, benefit, and advantage to maintaining a healthy balance between each of these domains.

As a school psychologist, I am a uniquely qualified member of our school team that supports our students' ability to learn and teachers' ability to teach. I follow the National Association of School Psychologist (NASP) 2020 professional standards NASP 2020 Professional Standardsincluding the Model for Comprehensive and Integrated School Psychological Services, also known as the NASP Practice Model. I apply expertise in mental health, learning, and behavior, to help children and youth succeed academically, socially, behaviorally and emotionally. School psychologists work with educators and families to identify and remedy barriers to learning, such as disabilities; mental or physical health problems; or social, cultural, language, or family issues that impact learning. School Psychologists partner with families, teachers, school administrators and other professionals to create safe, healthy and supportive learning environments that strengthen connections between home, school and the community. I can provide direct support and interventions and assist families in coordinating with outside services. School psychologists are trained to provide mental health services in the learning context. Services include mental health screening, assessment, behavioral supports, counseling, referrals, suicide risk assessment and threat assessments.
